More resident tarpon still around giving us some good action on the flats. February 19, 2008, what a beautiful month we have been having. The weather has been outstanding, with the average high hovering around 80 degrees. The fishing best has been great as well. Tarpon have been making a strong showing in some of their usual spots around key west. We have been catching really nice fish in the 40-70 pond range. The channels and basins in the backcountry have been holding the most Silverkings and the bait of choice has been a live fresh pinfish.
have had some great bonefish days and the permit fishing has been exceptional with micros to larger fish being caught. The resident tarpon fishing has been good too on the leeward sides of the mangroves. 9/21-24/2015, i fished the slam tournament this weekend with Dan karen from. Neither one had ever been flats fishing before but they jumped 3 Tarpon and had 2 Bonefish but none large enough to score for the tournament. It was nice to see so many young bones showing up on the flats. 10 Tarpon, 6 permit 3 bonefish to the boat on the lake bay in the past three days. Way to go Chad shane!
9/5/2015, tarpon on fly today and lots of plan them around along with some bones and permit on the flats. October 2015, david from Colorado got his life dream of catching a tarpon and ended up with five hooked up and several to the boat. Lots of bonefish around today and got into some big tailing permit on the flats. After catching some bonefish we were able to get into some tarpon but couldn't get them to eat a pinfish or a crab today. 12/2015 6/4-6/2015, lots of permit showing up on the flats along with good schools and groups of 3 to 6 pound bonefish. A 27 lbs permit was landed on the flats with a small crab along with 5 bonefish today. 6/12/15, the fishing today was tough with the wind e at 20kts.
